Nursery
Welcome to Knights Enham Nursery. Our Nursery provides a happy, nurturing environment in which children can thrive. It is led by a qualified teacher who is supported by dedicated Learning Support Assistants. The environment, both inside and outside, is fun and exciting. Each child is treated as an individual and staff follow their interests, supporting them on a life-long love of learning.
At Knights Enham Schools we provide…
Inclusive and ambitious learning experiences where our school community feels safe and motivated to achieve their best.
‘Together We Achieve’
We have two classes in our Nursery:
Owlets - our 2 year old nursery unit
Owls - our 3 and 4 year old nursery unit
We warmly welcome visits to our Nursery. Please contact the school to arrange an appointment with our Foundation Stage Leader.
About our Nursery for 2 year olds - Owlets Class
We plan all the experiences children have in school very carefully. Our staff get to know the children really well and plan activities that follow their interests.
Our children in Owlets attend for morning sessions during term-time. They have their own dedicated indoor learning space, a private outdoor learning area and share the large outside space with the rest of the EYFS. Chances to mix with the older children, supported by the adults, provide the Owlets with great role-models for learning and supports transition as they move throughout the EYFS.
Our ambitious EYFS aspiration curriculum starts for our youngest children and builds as they work their way through to Reception. Staff use our aspiration curriculum to provide lots of experiences for the children as well as following the interests of the children, embracing opportunities as they arise!
About our Nursery for 3 and 4 year olds - Owls Class
In Owls, there are a variety of sessions that children can attend during term-time. We plan our learning opportunities carefully to ensure that all children make the most of their time with us, regardless of the amount of hours they attend – we want all children to be included in our ambitious aspiration curriculum.
Planning – across our EYFS we have an aspiration curriculum which our children follow throughout their journey in early years. As well as using our curriculum to plan fun activities and learning opportunities, we follow the interests of the children and embrace opportunities as they arise! Children learn best when they are happy and motivated so staff use their strong knowledge of the children to make the most of the children’s strengths and interests.
Organisation – the school day follows a similar structure each day to help the children in following familiar routines. There are short periods of adult-led activities, sometimes as a whole group in a circle including stories, counting activities and singing nursery rhymes. Sometimes adult-led activities could be in a smaller group such as playing a turn-taking game or completing a puzzle. A large portion of their time in nursery will be in Discovery Time (child-initiated learning) where children learn by following their own ideas, supported by adults and the well chosen resources in the classroom.
Classroom environment – the classroom spaces are set up in a way that allow children to access learning independently. They have access to the continuous provision where they are able to choose toys and resources during their Discovery Time. The classroom is informally ‘zoned’ creating communication friendly spaces where the children can feel safe and secure. There are spaces where children can move around and play with their friends as well as calmer spaces they can retreat to for some quieter time.
School grounds and outside – children have chances throughout each day to utilise our rich school grounds. They have access during discovery time to our EYFS outdoor area which is shared with Owlets and Reception children. There are plenty of spaces to explore, with planned learning opportunities, as well as chances for children to develop their own ideas and games alongside their friends. We use our wooded track area to explore nature and develop our understanding of the world. As well as our EYFS area, adults plan opportunities for the children to use the wider school grounds, linked to our aspiration curriculum, such as visiting the chickens and ducks or visiting the junior site next door.
